Geneseo Communications Charitable Foundation awards $5,500 to Geneseo Development & Growth Inc.

Geneseo Communications Charitable Foundation is pleased to announce the award of $5,500 to Growth, Inc. for the purchase and installation of telephones in each of their classrooms.

Growth Inc. requested the funding in order to ensure continued quality care and safety for each family they serve.

“We want to have the essentials needed in case of an emergency. A phone system would bring help to our classrooms quickly and more efficiently. Having a phone system in place would ensure the quality of care we are striving to provide to our families”. Shelley Gorman, Executive Director.

The Geneseo Communications Charitable Foundation (GCCF) was established in 2002 by Geneseo Communications, Inc. to enhance, develop and benefit the Geneseo Community and surrounding areas.

GCCF grant applications can be found at www.Geneseo.com and can be submitted at any time throughout the year. Applications are reviewed quarterly and all 501(c)3 organizations are encouraged to apply.

Before the construction crews can begin rebuilding South State Street many local utility services must be moved. Geneseo Communications, Inc. (GCI) is taking this opportunity to begin delivering service to its State Street customers over fiber-optic cabling. Commonly referred to as “next-generation access” and “fiber-to-the-home (FTTH),” fiber is replacing copper cabling and is the new communications connectivity standard.

FTTH brings virtually unlimited bandwidth and can be delivered over great distances, which will make it a safe bet for future demands. In addition fiber is touted as the only technology with enough bandwidth capacity to handle ever-increasing consumer demands. Fiber can handle a multitude of services including voice, data, video, audio, IP services and more, making it the best solution for home and business.

While the State Street fiber project is scheduled to be complete by the end of the year, GCI customers in Richmond Hill West will begin utilizing FTTH this month.

By installing FTTH, GCI is increasing the service capacity in these neighborhoods as well as the value of the homes. According to a 2008 study by the Fiber To The Home Council, “Homes that have fiber get more attention as today’s consumers are more reliant on high speed access. Even homes that are passed by fiber naturally have more appeal.” (ftthcouncil.org)

What’s the future of FTTH in Geneseo? According to GCI General Manager, Matt Storm: “Our goal is 100% fiber to the home.”

For the past 30 years, Geneseo’s Aisle of Flags, a 501c3 not for profit corporation, has proudly offered a labor of love and honor in the setting up and tearing down of the Aisle of Flags display. This year, 664 flags will line the sidewalks of our city park. These flags represent individuals who have served in our country’s armed forces. We are grateful for the existence of this organization, for the honor it brings to our veterans and for the beauty it brings to Geneseo.

On Saturday, June 16 immediately following the parade, Geneseo Communications, Inc. is sponsoring their second annual ice cream social in the park – 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. All proceeds will be donated to the Aisle of Flags. PLEASE come out and help us help the Aisle of Flags in their endeavor to find a new facility! Our goal is for future generations to have the privilege to see and be part of the beauty and honor that is the Aisle of Flags.

Comprehensive IP solution significantly reduces operational costs while increasing functionality

Geneseo, IL, February 28, 2012 – Geneseo Telephone Company, an advanced communications services provider for the greater Geneseo, Ill. area, has selected a broad, integrated network transformation solution from GENBAND. By integrating the C15™ Compact Softswitch with the S3™ Session Border Controller(SBC), GENBAND is providing a single source, end–to-end solution for IP switching, session border control and applications that transforms Geneseo’s network cost structure and services capabilities. The SIP trunking and SIP line access solution from GENBAND will enable Geneseo to also offer low- cost international connections to local businesses, providing local North American numbers for out-sourced services from international locations such as India.

The new platform has many modern features including drag and drop message folder to folder transfer, shift/click message selection, a fresh user interface and much more. We think you’ll find the new webmail system a pleasure to use and a much needed update. In addition we are providing access to our new webmail service utlizing SSL (https). The data that is transferred between your system and ours is now encrypted – for your added protection and safetey.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Though we can not import MAIL from the old system to the new, we have developed a process that will allow you to export and import your address book. Please read this article for information on HOW to do this!

THE OLD WEBMAIL SYSTEM WILL BE SHUT DOWN: Please be sure you get everything you need out of the OLD webmail system. This system will be shut down on June 1, 2012.

GCCF will close out its 9th year on December 31, 2011 with over $100,000 distributed to local charities. This year’s grant recipients include:

While most of us wake up on Christmas day with several presents under the tree, many local families and their children are not so fortunate.  This year will be different for them!

On Tuesday, December 13, Geneseo Telephone Company employees manned the “toy drop off center” in front of the phone company office for their annual toy drive.

According to Brenda Crider, head of the toy drive, this year tops them all. “This year was our biggest to date!  We had vehicles pulling up with toys or cash all day long.  We are so thankful to all of those who stopped by with gifts.  It is a blessing to witness the outpouring of generosity from those in our community for the benefit of others within our community who may be less fortunate” said Crider.

In addition to the several hundred new gifts, Geneseo Telephone Company also collected nearly $1600 in cash which was used to buy even MORE gifts for the toy drive. The truck load of toys was delivered to the Geneseo Food Pantry on Thursday, December 15!
