Better internet options forthcoming outside the Quad Cities proper.
Bettendorf, August 24th 2015: The Wireless Telecommunications Bureau of The Federal Communications Commission has granted Geneseo Communications its licensing for the AWS-3 wireless spectrum. The company is one of only a select number of winning bidders to receive the licensing.
Earlier this year, the organization was the successful bidder on licensing that will allow the use of the spectrum in the following Illinois counties: Bureau, Fulton, Ford, Hancock, Henderson, Iroquois, Knox, LaSalle, Livingston, Marshall, McDonough, Mercer, Putnam, Schuyler, Stark, and Warren.
The AWS-3 spectrum operates at a lower frequency than the existing spectrums currently used by cellular and data providers. The lower frequency allows for communication over a longer range with much better penetration though structures. The company’s initial plans are to utilize this spectrum and build a network for better data delivery to the residents and business of those counties. “We are fairly confident that we will have a great response of people who want service just as we had in the Quad Cities with our FiberMeQc campaign”, stated Scott Rubins, President and CEO of Geneseo Communications.
Headquartered in Geneseo, Illinois, Geneseo Communications has serviced Geneseo and the surrounding areas with communication technologies for over 100 years.
